In 2006, in French-speaking Belgium, associations active in the field of accessibility for people with disabilities came together to form the Wallonia-Brussels Accessibility Collective (CAWaB). This collective created a common accessibility framework. A need for a practical evaluation tool quickly emerged.
A working group named “Access-i” was then formed, including people with disabilities. Based on the CAWaB framework, their expectations and tolerance thresholds were defined, in order to draft the criteria of the Access-i normative guide. Multiple debates and discussions led to the development of a precise methodology for assessing the accessibility of infrastructures and publicly accessible spaces.

How does it work?
We organise a visit to the location to carry out an inventory of existing facilities.
Each visited location has an information sheet. This information sheet includes:
- a description of the place;
- photos of the on-site facilities;
- a list of strengths and points of attention by type of disability;
- useful documents to help prepare your visit.
