Bibliothèque La Célestine

The new La Célestine library is located in the Casernes district. The space is rich in books and open to digital technology.

It has a wide range of books, including large-print works, audio books for the visually impaired, and works in foreign languages and easy French (FLE) for adult learners. Computers are available, as are magazines and newspapers received daily.

Opening times :

  • Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 6pm
  • Saturdays, 9am to 1pm

In the near future, the library will be Open+ : free access for members outside opening hours and outside the presence of librarians.

Open+ hours :

  • Tuesday to Friday, 6.30pm to 10pm
  • Saturday, 1.30pm to 10pm
  • Sunday, 10am to 10pm

A semi-public underground car park is available below the building (it has not been audited). The library rents two reserved spaces, which are available on request. 

You can also park on the street, using a parking meter.

You enter the La Célestine Library via the porch of the old barracks. The library is housed mainly in the new white building.

On the ground floor you will find :

  • the Reception area, with automatic book return machines and lockers ;
  • l'Espace Jeunes, with computers ;
  • La Cabane de Mariette, where storytelling activities and classes are held ;
  • multi-purpose rooms.

The sanitary facilities are child-friendly, and a breastfeeding room is available.

The games library is on the half-floor (0A).

There is a non-secure mezzanine in the adult area on the first floor (1A and 2).

Staff are available to help and are highly trained. They have had training with Eqla ; they know the basics of sign language. Some of them also run groups for the cognitively impaired.

Books can be hired and returned via an automatic machine or by staff. 

A map can be consulted at the entrance to each area.

The reception desk is too low : the upper edge is 75 cm and the lower edge is 70 cm from the floor.

The PRM toilet near the toy library is not fully equipped : there is only one removable grab bar.

It is possible to sit in the library to read, work or study. However, the tables provided are not accessible to wheelchair users : the height of the table is a maximum of 75 cm, and the height under the table is a maximum of 66 cm, depending on the furniture.

Staff are trained to welcome people with disabilities.

The library can be accessed by members, without staff. In the case of ‘Open+’ access, certain constraints must be taken into account, such as

  • the weight of the entrance door ;
  • the badge reader to the right of the door, which is at a height of between 109 cm and 151 cm from the floor.
