CAP - Maison des Collections

In a fast-changing city like Mons, the role of a city museum is to present its history and heritage, while shedding light on the social, societal, environmental and urban planning issues that characterize its evolution.

It invites us to refresh and sharpen our view of the city. It sheds light on the past, while bearing witness to those who live in Mons today.

To achieve these objectives, the municipal collections guide the visitor's questions and path through the long history of the city of Mons. The museographic approach is problematized, starting with the collection, by comparing heritage and contemporary society; the heritage object invites us to enter into a dialogue with history, heritage and society.

The collections involved in the project are

City of Mons collections held at the Artothèque and resulting from various bequests, donations, purchases and deposits made over time (archeological collection, Glépin collection, fine arts collection, prehistory collection, Puissant collection, etc.);
Partner collections (AWAP, UMONS...) ;
Contemporary collections, objects bearing witness to history in the making (contributory collections, partnerships...).
