Please note :
This certification only concerns the building and not future events that may take place in it.
During events, the layout of the premises may change, resulting in a change in accessibility. The responsibility for this change would then lie with the event organiser.
Furthermore, the certification visit only concerned the public part of the building and not the rented parts.

Description of the VENUE :

  • The main function included in the audit of this building is the "KVS Bol" room, the "KVS top" room, the foyer, the "KVS bar" and the "KVS atrium" are included as secondary functions. 

Strong points

Staff
  • There is staff available to help negotiate obstacles.
  • There is staff available to direct and guide.
Parking
  • It is possible to drop a person off near the entrance.
Identification
  • The building is easy to find.

Points of attention

Staff
  • There is no reference person to welcome and accompany the persons with special needs.
Safety
  • The signage is not adapted and does not make it possible to orient oneself easily.
  • The signage is insufficient for orientation.
  • It is difficult to distinguish the doors one from the other.
  • There are two PRM parking spaces along the Hay Dock. They are located more than 100m away. The path has several pedestrian crossings.
  • The parking spaces are narrow: 1.8x6m. 
  • The entrance for a person in a wheelchair is via an alternative entrance on the right of the building via a 9.1% by 3.2m ramp. The ramp is not equipped with a handrail but with a low safety wall. 
  • The PRM toilets are in sufficiently large premises, but the transfer areas are too small (>110cm).
  • The wheelchair spaces are located in the pathway. The spaces measure 1.10x1.20cm.

  • A sufficiently large lift serves all the floors open to the public.
  • The lift can be used in autonomy.
Adapted sanitary
  • The adapted toilet is easy to find.
  • There is an accessible sink in the adapted toilet.
  • The sink is accessible and it is easy to use.
Dining room
  • All the tables allow a correct positioning in a wheelchair.
  • The width of circulations is sufficient.
Theater/Cinema
  • The theatre has reserved spaces that offer a good visual comfort.
  • The person can be accompanied by at least one person when they are in a reserved space / There is at least one regular seat for a companion next to the reserved seat.

  • The surface of the parking space is not adapted.
Access road from the car park
  • The floor is irregular.
  • The floor is hardly passable in some places.
  • The access path towards the alternative entrance is badly signalled.
Entrance
  • There are steps in the entrance.
  • The main entrance is not accessible and the alternative entrance is hard to find.
  • The staff does not see the persons who arrive.

  • The counter is too high.
Vertical circulation
  • The depth of the lift car is between 130 and 140 cm.
Adapted sanitary
  • There is an adapted toilet, but it is difficult to use.
  • The space around the toilet seat is too small.
Theater/Cinema
  • The access to the reserved space is not easy.
  • It is possible to move to a seat, but without keeping one‘s wheelchair nearby.
Changing room
  • There is no adapted locker room.

  • The main entrance is not accessible and the alternative entrance is hard to find.
  • There are more than 3 steps in the entrance.
  • There are several entrances and they are not all accessible.
Vertical circulation
  • There is a handrail on one side of the staircases only.
  • The access road is not provided with artificial guide lines.
  • In the auditorium there are many isolated steps. 
  • The "KVS Bar" room has an "upper" and a "lower" part. The latter is accessible by 6 unsafe steps (no handrail and no contrast on the steps).

  • In the auditorium there are many insulated steps. 
  • The KVS Bar room consists of an upper and a lower part. The latter is accessible by 6 unsafe steps (no handrail and no contrast on the steps). 
  • Access to the "KVS TOP" room is via a staircase, a metal beam is located approximately 2m from the ground. 
  • In the sanitary facilities, there are columns and vaults that are not secured and protrude at face level.

  • The spaces on levels 4 and 5 have high ceilings, depending on the number of visitors, it is possible for the spaces to be noisy and resonant. 
  • The use of an induction loop is possible in the large room "KVS Bol". However, this must be requested in advance as it is not possible to book online. A few places are reserved for this purpose on certain floors.
