MUMONS
MUMONS, Sciences, Arts & Curiosities
The University of Mons has opened its museum in the heart of the former monastery of the Visitandines, a Walloon heritage building that holds many secrets of history.
One of the main roles of a museum is to showcase its collections. The University, for example, has hundreds of thousands of precious books, maps and plans, works of art, ancient scientific instruments and a host of other objects, all linked to its history and its many activities ! From the Gutenberg Bible to the Nokia 3310, we keep almost everything! Then, as events and themes arise, the museum puts them on display.
At present, the theme of the invisible is dealt with on the ground floor and 2nd floor, while the history of the visitandinnes is told in the crypt, in the permanent exhibition. The 1st floor is reserved for the university premises.
The MUMONS website indicates an alternative entrance at Rue Rossignol, on level -2 of the museum. A call button opens the automatic doors but does not allow staff to be contacted for assistance in reaching level 0 and/or reception.

In general
Exploring the Invisible, a thrilling visual journey
Hold on tight, because the scientific photography exhibition, "Exploring the Invisible", is coming to MUMONS for a 3rd edition !
As soon as you enter the museum, you'll be transported by the photographs that unfold before your eyes, taking you into surprising yet very real worlds !
A few months ago, the MUMONS team embarked on a wonderful adventure: collecting and selecting the most beautiful scientific images obtained in the University's laboratories, with the intention of exhibiting them as genuine works of art. Somewhere between scientific research and contemporary art, you will discover things that usually cannot be seen because they are too small, too far away, too hidden or too abstract.
As part of the Heritage Days 2024 on 7 and 8 September, the museum organised an adapted visit in sign language with its Montpellier partner "Les Cèdres", a reception and support service for students with disabilities.
