Welcome to Access-i

Musée de la Médecine

The Musée de la Médecine has been in existence for over 25 years, bringing together an original heritage consisting mainly of art and archaeological objects rather than old instruments and apparatus. A visit to its 8 exhibition rooms provides a direct illustration of medical practices and helps visitors to understand the evolution of medicine.

The museum is relatively accessible, but there are a number of points to bear in mind.
We invite you to consult the specific information sheet giving details of the museum's accessibility for each target audience.
The museum building is located on the Erasmus campus.
The museum staff are particularly well aware of and trained to welcome PRMs.
The museum can organise special tours for people with special needs.

Strong points

Staff
  • A reference person is present to welcome and accompany the persons with special needs.
  • An reference person is available upon prior request.
  • The staff has received training for the reception of persons with special needs.

Despite efforts to make the content of the exhibitions accessible, there are still some major points of concern.
There are disabled parking spaces in a pay car park, but it is far from the entrance and difficult to get to. What's more, the spaces are not up to standard (too narrow). There are also other spaces in front of the hospital entrance, but they are all occupied on a regular basis.
There is a step at the front door, which is filled by a removable ramp (16% slope over 30cm).
The bell for asking for help is 120cm high.
The lift is not fully accessible, as it has a clearance of 75cm. It serves all floors except two rooms (anatomical waxes I and II).
Some doorways are less than 80cm wide (some are 77.5cm wide).
The "PRM" toilets are not properly equipped (no grab bar) and the doorway has a clearance of 76cm without sufficient turning space for access.

Strong points

Entrance
  • The building is easy to identify.
  • There is a doorbell at the entrance that allows asking for help.

Points of attention

Horizontal circulation
  • Some transit areas are too narrow.
Vertical circulation
  • The lift does not serve all the floors open to the public.

Adapted sanitary
  • There is an adapted toilet, but it is difficult to access.
  • The toilet is not properly equipped.
Exposition
  • Due to the configuration of the premises, a part of the content is difficult to access.
