BOIS DU CAZIER, A COMBINATION OF COAL, IRON, AND GLASS

The Museum of Industry

Following the Industrial Revolution, the Charleroi region became one of Belgium's main centers of economic activity. The Museum of Industry brings this rapidly changing world back to life, retracing the technical, social, and economic history of the Walloon industrial belt of Haine-Sambre-et-Meuse.

The Glass Museum

Along with coal and iron, glass completes the trilogy that brought fame and prosperity to the Charleroi region. Presented from an innovative angle, it invites visitors on a unique journey through time, from the present day back to its origins.

The workshops

Under a typical sawtooth roof, among pipes, furnaces, anvils, hammers, and machine tools, a raw setting hosts forging and foundry work as well as glass blowing with a blowtorch. Run by artisans, these places are open to the public for demonstrations and workshops.

Saint Victor Church in Petigny

The Church of Saint Victor in Petigny (Couvin) was rebuilt between 1872 and 1874 in a neo-Romanesque style, based on plans by architect Ladislas Degreny. It consists of three naves and its bell tower was restored in 1939. The interior was redesigned in 1968 by architect René Michaux. Its organ, built around 1890 by Schyven, has recently undergone a participatory restoration.

Today, the church remains a lively place of worship and also hosts cultural activities.
