Cycling route : Liège – Bütgenbach – Malmedy

The route is a round trip to Malmedy. The entire route is on the RAVeL.

First, take the RAVeL Line 45A in Bütgenbach, along the Warche reservoir and the Worriken tourist and leisure centre. Then you join a section of the famous Vennbahn (Line 48) to Waimes.

The history of these routes is linked to the historic crossroads between the Luxembourg, Prussian and Belgian railways. Each contributed to the development of these lines.

The walk is very pleasant and takes place in a green setting.

The walk is on a dedicated cycle path or RAVeL throughout the entire circuit.
The surface is even and in good condition throughout the entire circuit.
The path is sufficiently wide.
There are 13 road crossings on the circuit.
Most of the road crossings are safe (barriers, signage and road markings).
There is an accessible toilet at the Worriken holiday centre.
The route can be followed using the following junction points : 18-17-16-15-14-12-11-10-09-08-07.

Points of attention

There are three parking spaces near the start of the circuit and the access to the RAVeL. The parking spaces are too narrow.
You have to cross the car park to reach the circuit. Access to the circuit is possible via a metal kerb.
The last 50 metres before reaching the circuit are on a gravel surface.
The start of the circuit and access to the RAVeL are not signposted from the car park.
There are numerous rest areas and seating areas. Not all of them are easily accessible (gravel).
Four crossings may require you to dismount, depending on the traffic.
The crossing of the Belvue road on arrival in Malmedy does not have sufficient turning space.
The return leg of the circuit (Malmedy to Worriken) is on a slight incline and will require more muscle power or electric assistance.
There are no accessible toilets near the finish in Malmedy. An accessible toilet is available at the Malmundarium. To access it, you will need to make a detour.
The circuit is on a European cycle route and can be very busy depending on the season.
