The church is located in the centre of the village of Tintigny, next to the square and opposite the municipal administration building.
It is a sacred building dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption. It was built on the site of a Gallo-Roman pagan temple.
The church is currently dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption, in accordance with the wishes of the Jesuit Fathers of Luxembourg. It dates from the 17th century, as indicated by the date “1602” engraved on the wall of the chapel of the Lords of Villemont.
The building has undergone several transformations. In 1736, a sacristy was added to the east end of the church. In 1763, the bell tower, which had been knocked down by a hurricane, was rebuilt in the form of a massive square tower.
In 1895, the nave was lengthened and a new tower was built in the neoclassical style. The tower houses three bells: Marie-Antoinette, Bohy and Lorette. The last restoration took place in 1982.
In 2002, the Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption celebrated its 400th anniversary, and a committee was set up to mark the occasion in style.
Numerous cultural events are held throughout the year (concerts, theatre, poetry, fireworks, etc.).
