For 103 years, a small territory coveted for its mineral resources gave rise to a unique political and social experiment: the neutral territory of Moresnet, wedged between Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The history of the village of La Calamine is inextricably linked to the ore mined there for centuries: calamine. The production of zinc, a new material of the 19th century, propelled it into an industrial era.
The museum presents this story in its authentic setting, the Vieille-Montagne management building, which overlooks the former mining site.
The Vieille Montagne Museum opened its doors in September 2018. It replaces the Musée de la Vallée de la Gueule.
